The Redeemable Prince

This is it y’all…the last…one
The last book in the series that was my fall into the rabbit hole that is Indie.
The last book in the series that transformed my life (in the reading sense) in the most amazingly delicious way ever.
The last book in one of the best (in my humble opinion) love stories I’ve ever read.
Like, right up there with Pride and Prejudice good.
Or at least I think so.

And this book WILL NOT disappoint! We have read the love  story of Kiran and Eden (TEAM KIRAN ALL THE WAY THE WHOLE TIME!!!), Avalon and Amelia, Jericho and Olivia, and we finally get to read Sebastian and Seraphina’s story!

Here it is y’all:

Whatever was left of her already-tattered life during the Zombie Apocalypse fell apart six months ago. Now, on the cusp of crossing the Mexican border, there is hope that she might lead her friends to a better existence.

Except Zombies are only the beginning of their problems. Reagan and her friends must battle the elements, armies of Feeders and bounty hunters desperate to drag them back to the Colony to face their greatest threat.

The Colony’s power stretches wide and far. Their only hope is to outrun Matthias and get to Mexico.

Zombies- as if that wasn’t enough to ruin any girl’s dream of a happily ever after.

A vaccination gone oh so wrong and a huge portion of the world’s population was turned into Zombies. Reagan Willow is forced out of her home when her parents become casualties of the horrid Zombie Apocalypse. With the help of her best friend Haley, they’ve become somewhat of experts on surviving the dangers of a world thrust into chaos and decay.

Reagan and Haley are on a vague mission to find somewhere safe to live out the remainders of their terrifying life when they stumble upon the Parkers, a pack of brothers that seem to have the survival thing down in a much more efficient and successful way than Reagan could ever have imagined. They are also protecting their eight year old sister, Page, and will do anything to keep her safe.

The brothers decide that Reagan and Haley need help with being kept safe as well, and as a group they set off to find the Zombie-free utopia Reagan is dreaming of.

Zombies are a daily problem, constantly threatening the lives of their group, but they’re not the only peril on the journey ahead. Militia groups of power hungry men are also a constant concern. And settlements of paranoid, suspicious people turn out to be just as hazardous.

Danger looms over every inch of the way, but Reagan, Haley and the Parkers are determined to get to their goal and remain together. Soon the Parkers become more to Reagan than just traveling companions and more than friendship starts to develop between her and Hendrix, the second oldest brother.

But at the end of the world, nothing can be as simple as life and death. Now, Reagan is going to have to schedule falling in love between hunting and surviving. Hopefully she can last long enough to find out if true love can still exist when everything else has started to fall apart.

Love and Decay, Volume One, is a compilation of the first six episodes in a twelve episode season. It is a Dystopian Romance Novella Series about Zombies, the end of the world and finding someone to share it with.

This story takes place over multiple episodes, with a release date every two weeks. Each episode is approximately 20,000 words.

The Starbright Series

Another Rachel Higginson series!  A Star and her Counterpart assigned to save Earth from darkness…what’s not to love?

AND Heir of Secrets JUST came out!

Heir of Skies

Poor Stella Day, she thought she had years before she had to be Earth’s protector, unfortunately, the battle comes right to her one lonely, dark Nebraska night as she’s attacked by demons and can do nothing else than light up the night sky like the star she is.

Unfortunately…now they know where she is.

As if that doesn’t already complicate things, her counterpart Seth, and his guardian Jupiter come to her rescue, and she gets a good chewing out for lighting up like she did…

What else was she supposed to do!??!!? Let them kill her? Geez Jupiter!

Stella grew up in the human world, unlike most Stars, because her parents thought it would make her a better guardian if she was invested in the race she was assigned to. Unfortunately, the heart doesn’t care about boundaries and rules, because she kind of has feelings for her best guy friend in the whole world, Tristan, who happens to know her little secret.

Introduce confusing and conflicting feelings.

She knows what she is supposed to do, but well personally, I like Tristan better. I hate when  a guy comes in and demands the girl give him all the attention and drop every other male in her life…like he is the end all be all to her, and I felt like Seth did that.

Anyway, this was a great introduction to Stella, Seth, Jupiter, and all the Stars and fallen angels in the book. It’s full of action, and really who writes about stars like this? I love LOVE the whole idea!

Heir of Darkness

WHAT THE CRAP IS WRONG WITH SETH!?!?! WHY would you sell your soul to darkness like that!?!?! Geez,  I know he did it for Stella, to keep her safe, but seriously Seth!

That was an idiot move.

Rachel does such a beautiful job balancing the darkness he now has growing inside him, and bringing out the moments where he is “good”. Like he has two separate personalities, which I guess he does. This was my favorite book between the three, it was so full of action, and angst.  I like how Rachel portrays the angst and emotions without getting too “teenager-ish”.

Yes, I just made that word up.

Anyway, so Stella makes a decision about who her heart truly belongs too, and continues to train, and fight for not only earth, but for Seth and his soul.

Heir of Secrets

Ahhh Stella, what’s it like having the man you love be so freaking evil? Insane? Absolutely bat crap crazy!?!?! Seth is losing it…losing the battle between good and bad, and his encounters with Stella become more and more volatile, until one absolutely heartbreaking moment where I stopped breathing, tears welled up, and sobs broke loose.

Seriously Rachel!

Alright, let’s back up. This book had a TON of info in it! Specifically, who is Jude? How is he fallen, yet still light? Who is he in love with? Who is the traitor on the council? What is the purpose of stealing two young stars? Wow, this war is way WAY bigger than I realized, and this book lays it all out. I know there are two more books after this, but I just cannot imagine what on earth is going to happen in them.

Luckily, Tristan and Stella are close friends again, only without the confusing lovey feelings. And Piper is in the know now!!! YAY!!! I love her, not sure if it is her, her name, or both? Anyway, Rachel filled this book with some much needed answers!

Note: are the covers not GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!! Caedus Design Co. does them, and they do a FANTASTIC job!

Avalon & Jericho

Oh these boys. Avalon, who knew he’d ever find love? It’s about time though. I mean he is king, and he has nothing else to do, right? And then there’s Jericho. Seriously, ya’ll…you know I don’t like him, and I really REALLY wasn’t too interested in this book, but BUT!!!!!!! It was so good! Plus, after the first four books, I was longing for more of the story! What happened to everyone!?!?!? It’s hard to end a series and be left wondering, and Rachel wraps things up so nicely for everyone else..well Avalon, Jericho, and soon to be Sebastien anyway!

The Reluctant King

Is anyone at all surprised that Avalon is not happy being king!?!?!?! I wasn’t. He is more of an action guy, rather than someone who is content sitting around, planning parties and listening to petitions from their subjects. Of course, he never wanted to be king anyway, so that is just another thing to piss him off. Why, oh WHY would his people want ANOTHER monarch!?!?! He just doesn’t get it, but at least he is a FAIR king. So here he is sulking away, when in walks Amelia (yep, you know…little girl from the second book? Sebastian’s little sister?) all grown up and gorgeous. Only…*gasp* she doesn’t give him a second look!

When Kiran and Eden come back from their (very) long honeymoon, Avalon is ready for action and sets out to find out what the mysterious criminal behind the killing of shapeshifters and humans is up to. Off he goes to South America where he finds some real horrors, announces his love to Amelia, and marries her. Crazy how fast these things can happen when people’s lives are in danger.

This book is full of action, and excitement. Just like the other’s, you will not want to put it down!!!!

The Relentless Warrior

I may have mentioned this before, but I really dislike Jericho, but this book was SO GOOD! It really surprised me how much I really loved it. In this book, Jericho struggles with lingering  feelings for Eden and I just want to smack at him, and yell at him. C’mon man! She was NEVER YOURS!!!! SHE IS MARRIED! YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO PINE OVER HER!!!! Unfair, huh? I know, I know, but I just cannot help it.  I went into this book reluctantly. I read it more out of duty than desire. Seriously. However, I found myself absolutely loving this book. Yes, Jericho annoys me, but I was able to get past it, and get into the story. Jericho, along with the rest of the gang are in the middle of a battle for not only their own kind, but for humankind as well. Somehow, Terletov (that crazy bastard)  is able to inject some magic into humans, few have survived.

One of those former humans is Olivia. Olivia is such a great character. That’s something I just LOVE about Rachel, is that she brings us characters you can admire and look up to! She is feisty and strong, and incredibly pissed off. Unfortunately, Jericho gets the brunt of her anger. Meanwhile, Olivia’s sister is sick as all get out, and they are waiting to see if she will get better and be magical, or die like most of the other humans.

So SO many things happen in this book: Jericho’s parents show up (and yes….my hard heart may have softened a smidge when I realized what horrible parents they were, especially his dad), we meet Terletov’s brother, Olivia’s family, some epic battles, Eden’s temper (which is always fun)…just well written and all over good.

I thought it only fair to start my blog on indie books with the author who started it all for me…yep, you guessed her: Rachel Higginson. Seriously y’all, she is so amazing! She’s one of my all time favorites, and that puts her up there with Jane Austen for me (Mr. Darcy, anyone?). I am not a fangirl type person, but when she responds to one of my posts or pm’s in Facebook I squeal like my 3 year old daughter when she gets a new My Little Pony. I have a serious author crush, y’all.

I’ll start at the beginning. Let me just tell you now, I am cheap. Like seriously cheap. That might be because I am a stay-at-home mom, grad student, and wife, and while we do pretty good with one income, I still prefer to spend as little money as possible. With that said, I go on Amazon at least once a day to see what free ebooks there are and if any of them look interesting. This is exactly how I found Reckless Magic (which, incidentally is FREE!!!! GO! GO GET IT NOW!!!!!). Alright, now that you are back, I fell IN LOVE with this series, and I cannot wait until my daughter is old enough to read it! Let’s jump in, shall we?

The Star-Crossed Series

This series is pretty long, about 6 books so far and a novella. She also has some POV’s from the boys on her webpage that are TO DIE FOR!

Okay, so Reckless Magic (see link above) introduces us to Eden who is a feisty, strong, and maybe a little ditzy heroine. Ditzy might be unfair, but seriously, HOW do you forget you have magic!?!?!? Oh, and she has a bit of a temper. I love her. She is a great role model for girls to read about. She has a twin (Avalon) and was separated from him not long after they were born. She was raised human, and has a series of unfortunate accidents until she is finally put in a school for the magically gifted. She befriends a shy Lily, catches the eye of the popular Seraphina’s boyfriend Kiran, befriends the mysterious Avalon, and has another series of unfortunate events that finally require her to accept her magical abilities. Upon accepting these abilities, she then goes on an adventure to save Lily from the horrible King Lucan, who is the head of the monarchy for her world. This girl is gutsy, not only does she stand up to the king in front of his subjects during Lily’s trial, but she then dramatically escapes the castle in ways unheard of by her kind.

She’s pretty bad ass.

Hopeless Magic

Boy are you left feeling hopeless by the end of this one! Eden is in love with the Crown Prince (Kiran), her twin brother Avalon and the rest of her family want her to join the rebellion against the King, Lily is in prison, Eden has to go through an Immortal Right of Passage in India where her true power may be exposed, and she’s had repeated attempts on her life, one of which results in a sickness no immortal has ever recovered from. If this isn’t enough she has a dangerous run in with Seraphina and is betrayed in an incredibly heartbreaking way. Rachel really knows how to write a page turner! My emotions were all over the place in this one, but my little optimistic heart still holds on to a shred of hope for Kiran and Eden. Alright! That’s all I am going to say, I don’t want to spoil anything for anyone!

Fearless Magic

I love this book, because Eden really grows up and comes into her own, and we see her take on her role as leader of The Resistance. I also hate this book, because I just do not like Jericho, and I hate that they are together. I may or may not have yelled at Rachel when they kissed for the first time.  At this point I’m still holding out for Kiran and Eden, they are just too perfect, and Jericho is just too…not right. I have a serious aversion to this guy. However, he helps Eden get through a pretty tough time, so I guess I have to give him that…reluctantly. Sebastien, Kiran’s cousin, plays a big role in this book, we see Eden taking his magic, and taking him hostage. We also find Kiran pretty sick from losing Eden, like on his deathbed sick. Eden goes to him intending to kill him, but do I really think she’d do that? No, of course not. He’s her soul mate! I just know it. That was a pretty intense scene though, and Eden barely escapes. By the end of the book we see Eden giving up her magic to Avalon, as she trades herself for him. Of course this ruins the boys plans for Avalon’s rescue (and they are pretty grumpy about it), but it also gets Eden and Kiran back together (and my little heart was so happy at this point I thought it might explode!)

Endless Magic

The final Eden and Kiran book  is possibly my favorite (did I mention I have read and re-read this series at least five times?)! Alright, let’s be realistic here, they both needed to grow the hell up, and they still have a ton of growing up they do in this book. I have ALWAYS rooted for Kiran and Eden, but they were not ready for each other in the beginning of the series, and while I hated that for them, we get to see a relationship that has matured and changed, for the better, begin to form in this final book. The book starts with Lucan screaming at Eden to get her magic back, and this girl, this OH SO GUTSY girl refuses. Man I love her. Eventually, however, she does meet up with Avalon and gets her magic back, making Lucan happy, and ensuring the safety of those she loves. She (unknowingly) and Kiran begin making Eden’s magic known to the Titans, by having her heal the one’s who are dying of the King’s Curse. She endears herself to everyone she meets, and find new allies throughout this book. She breaks up with Jericho (YAY!!!!!!) and we get to see Kiran and Eden fall in love. I think at the beginning of this series, they were in lust or puppy love with each other. There was no depth, no staying power really…nothing to stand on. Not so in this book. They begin to learn to trust each other, to enjoy each others company…they fall in love. All is right with the world by the end of this book. This takes awhile, Eden still thinks Kiran is the enemy, and poor Kiran’s heart has been so beat up he is a little timid…at first. I love it when he tells her he is going to start trying *sigh*. This book ends in an epic battle, where the good are victorious.

I have left out SO SO many amazing parts of all of these books. I love spoilers, because I LOVE to read the book regardless of what happens at the end. I always say it’s the journey, and so I have never experienced a “spoiler”. However, many people do not like spoilers so I try not to give much away in my reviews. Also, there are two more books in this series. One is Avalon’s story, and the other is Jericho’s story and I’ll be introducing them in tomorrow’s post, as this has gotten pretty long, so….Star-Crossed series….TO BE CONTINUED!
